A reading of excerpts from his new book “Charles Dickens and the Great Theatre of the World”
‘When you find a writer you love, it’s like finding a best friend’… Join us in the intimate surroundings of Theatre Royal Winchester as celebrated actor Simon Callow reads from his new book on Charles Dickens, ‘the greatest storyteller that ever lived’. Simon will discuss his strong affinity with and appreciation of the writer and how his new book explores the energy, scope and endless inventiveness of Dickens.
Simon points out how Dickens’ works contain ‘fantastic pieces of storytelling… they break your heart, but in a terrific kind of way’ and yet reveal a ‘comic genius’ with an interesting paradox at heart: quintessentially English yet so fundamentally anti-establishment.
Simon enjoyed playing Dickens in BBC’s Dr Who recently in an episode written by Mark Gatiss from The League of Gentlemen and will be available for questions and answers and an aftershow book signing.
